Feel Good Tip for Today ~ Enjoy the Small Things

Enjoy the small things. You’ll discover how much happiness they bring.

This morning I woke to discover a favorite team won last night. That was good surprise. A bit later I got texts from my daughters (they always bring a smile to my face). I went to the gym and had a great workout (I love to sweat). While I worked out I chatted with fellow gym rats. My day only got better. Yes, it is the small things that make the big difference in one’s day. Enjoy every one of them.

Positive Thought for the Day ~ You are Not Alone

“The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle,

known loss, and have found their way out of those depths.” ~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

NOTE: You are not alone in your struggles, in the pain you are experiencing, in the great loss in your life. People throughout the world share the same experience and understand what you are experiencing because they share it with you. Life calls you to live, to transform your pain into something special. Make something good come from it. You can do it.

Health Tip for Today ~ Up Your Brain Power

While most of us know that what we eat affects our bodies, eating a healthy diet also affects our brain. The foods that you eat regularly can help keep your brain healthy and may also improve memory and concentration. While there is no magic pill – or food – that prevents cognitive decline, a healthy dietary pattern which includes lots of plant-based foods, such as fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains, and healthy proteins and fats like fatty fish and olive oil can help support brain health. And many of these same foods are also good for the heart. Add the following foods to your plate to promote brain health:

The brain-boosting foods can help ward off dementia and improve your brain health.

  • Fatty fish.
  • Blueberries.
  • Leafy greens.
  • Nuts and seeds.
  • Eggs.
  • Broccoli.
  • Coffee and tea.

Inspiring Quote for Today ~ Patience & Persistence Pay Big Dividends

“Character never quits; and with patience and persistence; Dreams do come true!”

Poem for Today ~ Rainfall

Rainfall

Emily Pauline Johnson

From out the west, where darkling storm-clouds float,
The ’waking wind pipes soft its rising note.

From out the west, o’erhung with fringes grey,
The wind preludes with sighs its roundelay,

Then blowing, singing, piping, laughing loud,
It scurries on before the grey storm-cloud;

Across the hollow and along the hill
It whips and whirls among the maples, till

With boughs upbent, and green of leaves blown wide,
The silver shines upon their underside.

A gusty freshening of humid air,
With showers laden, and with fragrance rare;

And now a little sprinkle, with a dash
Of great cool drops that fall with sudden splash;

Then over field and hollow, grass and grain,
The loud, crisp whiteness of the nearing rain.

Health Tip for Today ~ 5 Tips to Promote Healthy Hair & Skin

Give Your Hair and Skin a Healthy Boost

  1. Maintain a balanced and nutritious diet: A healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats can provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support skin and hair health. Include foods like avocados, nuts, fatty fish, spinach, berries, and sweet potatoes in your meals.
  2. Stay hydrated: Drinking an adequate amount of water is crucial for maintaining hydrated skin and healthy hair. Aim to drink at least 8 cups (64 ounces) of water per day or more if you engage in physical activity or live in a dry climate.
  3. Practice a regular skincare routine: Establish a skincare routine that suits your skin type and concerns. It typically involves cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and protecting your skin from the sun with sunscreen. Use products formulated for your specific skin needs and avoid harsh ingredients or excessive scrubbing that can damage the skin.
  4. Protect your skin from the sun: Exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays can lead to premature aging, wrinkles, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Apply sunscreen with a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30, wear protective clothing, and seek shade during peak sun hours to protect your skin from sun damage.
  5. Be gentle with your hair: Avoid excessive heat styling, harsh chemical treatments, and tight hairstyles that can cause damage to your hair. Use a wide-toothed comb or a brush with soft bristles to prevent hair breakage. Allow your hair to air dry whenever possible and use heat protectants before using hot styling tools. Additionally, regularly trim your hair to prevent split ends and promote healthy growth.

It’s important to note that individual factors, such as genetics and underlying health conditions, can also influence skin and hair health. If you have specific concerns or conditions, it’s recommended to consult with a dermatologist or healthcare professional for personalized advice.

Feel Good Tip for Today ~ Getting Rid of the Blues

We’re all subject to the blues. We can have the blues, but the blues don’t have to have us. Singer Neil Diamond’s song, Song Sung Blue expresses a simple way to rid ourselves of the blues. In one verse he sings, “Me and you are subject to the blues now and then / But when you take the blues and make a song / You sing them out again.” The formula is simple, act happy, sing, dance, and jump for joy, even if you don’t feel like it and when we do, we sing the blues out again.
