Health Tip of the Day ~ What is the Difference in Calories Burned between Walking and Running One Mile?

Yes, there is a calorie difference between walking one mile and running one mile.

The number of calories burned during exercise depends on several factors, including the intensity of the exercise, the duration of the activity, the body weight of the person, and their fitness level. Running is a higher intensity activity than walking and requires more energy and effort. Therefore, running one mile burns more calories than walking one mile.

The exact number of calories burned during running or walking depends on the factors mentioned above, as well as the pace of the activity. However, on average, running burns approximately twice as many calories per mile as walking. For example, a 150-pound person would burn about 100 calories walking one mile at a moderate pace, but would burn about 200 calories running one mile at a moderate pace.

Positive Thought of the Day ~ Finding One’s Destiny

“The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.”

NOTE: What are you living for? What is so important to you that you want to wake up each morning and give yourself to it? Haven’t found it yet? Begin your search. When you find it, you will find your destiny.

Inspiring Quote of the Day ~ Let Your Dreams Lift You Up

“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.”

Joke of the Day

Joe: “I got a clear conscience.”

Pete: “That’s good.”

Joe: “I also have a bad memory.”

Positive Thought of the Day ~ Shine On

“Love is not about property, diamonds and gifts. It is about sharing your very self with the world around you.”

NOTE: The happiest folks I’ve known are those who are other centered. Their egos are kept in the check, making their world infinitely larger than that of the self-centered person. The more we reach out with our gifts and talents to bring the sunshine to our world, the more the sunshine reflects back on us. Shine On. Shine Brightly.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ It is Possible to be Happy

Happiness often comes from within. Learn how to tame negative thoughts and approach every day with optimism. All humans have a tendency to . . . ruminate more on bad experiences than positive ones. It’s an evolutionary adaptation — over-learning from the dangerous or hurtful situations we encounter through life (bullying, trauma, betrayal) helps us avoid them in the future and react quickly in a crisis. But that means you have to work a little harder to train your brain to conquer negative thoughts. Here’s how:

Don’t try to stop negative thoughts. Telling yourself “I have to stop thinking about this,” only makes you think about it more. Instead, own your worries. When you are in a negative cycle, acknowledge it. “I’m worrying about money.” “I’m obsessing about problems at work.”

Treat yourself like a friend. When you are feeling negative about yourself, ask yourself what advice would you give a friend who was down on herself. Now try to apply that advice to you.

NOTE: If we want to stop the flow of negative thoughts the first step is to become AWARE of what you are thinking. If you’re like me, your thoughts can take hold of you and run off at a 100 miles an hour. Once we become aware of what we are thinking, we can apply the brakes to our thinking and substitute a new thought process. It’s not easy, it is possible. An optimistic thought always feels much better than a negative thought.

Poem of the Day ~ Miracles

Miracles

Walt Whitman

Why, who makes much of a miracle?
As to me I know of nothing else but miracles,
Whether I walk the streets of Manhattan,
Or dart my sight over the roofs of houses toward the sky,
Or wade with naked feet along the beach just in the edge of the water,
Or stand under trees in the woods,
Or talk by day with any one I love, or sleep in the bed at night with any one I love,
Or sit at table at dinner with the rest,
Or look at strangers opposite me riding in the car,
Or watch honey-bees busy around the hive of a summer forenoon,
Or animals feeding in the fields,
Or birds, or the wonderfulness of insects in the air,
Or the wonderfulness of the sundown, or of stars shining so quiet and bright,
Or the exquisite delicate thin curve of the new moon in spring;
These with the rest, one and all, are to me miracles,
The whole referring, yet each distinct and in its place.

To me every hour of the light and dark is a miracle,
Every cubic inch of space is a miracle,
Every square yard of the surface of the earth is spread with the same,
Every foot of the interior swarms with the same.

To me the sea is a continual miracle,
The fishes that swim—the rocks—the motion of the waves—the
        ships with men in them,
What stranger miracles are there?
