Inspiring Quote for Today ~ Never Quit

“Don’t give up. There are too many nay-sayers out there who will try to discourage you. Don’t listen to them.

The only one who can make you give up is yourself.”

Positive Thought for Today ~ Never Quit

“Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world. Set a goal and don’t quit until you attain it.

When you do attain it, set another goal, and don’t quit until you reach it. Never quit.’

NOTE: It’s not easy to keep going when defeat is all but certain. Yet, the only thing that is certain is if you quit, you’re finished. You’ve lost. As long as you’re still slogging away, you have a chance. No one knows the outcome until the outcome happens. Never quit. Never give up.

Feel Good Tip of the Day ~ Grab Hold of Jerry’s Attitude

I ran into Jerry at the Supermarket. He’s good friend of mine. I hadn’t seen Jerry in over a year. I asked him how he was doing. He said he had cancer in nearly all of his body and had spent 22 months in the hospital. Then he quickly added, ‘Don’t feel sorry for me. I’m  not quitting. When I die, I’ll go out kicking and screaming. Jerry went on to tell me that his goal in life is to be a model for other people in similar situations. He wants to help them develop a no quit, never give up attitude. We can all use Jerry’s no quit attitude regardless of our situation. As Jerry said, “You quit, you lose. I’m not quitting. I’ve already won right here (Jerry pointed to his head).

Health Tip for Today ~ Do You Know the Benefits of Cooking with Flax Flour?

Cooking with flax flour can offer several health benefits due to its rich nutritional profile.

Here are 7  health benefits associated with flax flour:

      1. High in Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Flax flour is an excellent plant-based source of omega-3 fatty acids, specifically alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Omega-3 fatty acids have been linked to numerous health benefits, including reduced inflammation, improved heart health, and brain function.
      2. Good Source of Fiber: Flax flour is high in dietary fiber, both soluble and insoluble. Fiber aids in digestion, promotes bowel regularity, and can help with weight management by providing a feeling of fullness.
      3. Potential Cholesterol-Lowering Effects: Some studies suggest that the soluble fiber and lignans found in flax flour may help lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, which are associated with a reduced risk of heart disease.
      4. Rich in Antioxidants: Flax flour contains lignans, which are antioxidants that may have anti-cancer properties and help protect against certain chronic diseases.
      5. Supports Digestive Health: The fiber content in flax flour can support a healthy digestive system by promoting regular bowel movements and reducing the risk of constipation.
      6. Gluten-Free Alternative: Flax flour is naturally gluten-free, making it a suitable option for individuals with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease. It can be used as a substitute for wheat flour in gluten-free baking.
      7. Nutrient-Rich: Flax flour is a good source of essential nutrients like vitamin B1 (thiamine), magnesium, and phosphorus, which play vital roles in energy production, bone health, and nerve function.

It’s important to note that flax flour should be stored properly in a cool, dark place to prevent the delicate omega-3 fatty acids from becoming rancid. Additionally, it is recommended to consume flax flour in moderation as part of a balanced diet, as excessive intake may have adverse effects.

Poem for Today ~ Lord, I Ask a Garden . . .

Lord, I Ask a Garden . . .

Alfonso Guillén Zelaya

Lord, I ask a garden in a quiet spot
where there may be a brook with a good flow,
an humble little house covered with bell-flowers,
and a wife and a son who shall resemble Thee.

I should wish to live many years, free from hates,
and make my verses, as the rivers
that moisten the earth, fresh and pure.
Lord, give me a path with trees and birds.

I wish that you would never take my mother,
for I should wish to tend to her as a child
and put her to sleep with kisses, when somewhat old
she may need the sun.

I wish to sleep well, to have a few books,
an affectionate dog that will spring upon my knees,
a flock of goats, all things rustic,
and to live off the soil tilled by my own hand.

To go into the field and flourish with it;
to seat myself at evening under the rustic eaves,
to drink in the fresh mountain perfumed air
and speak to my little one of humble things.

At night to relate him some simple tale,
teach him to laugh with the laughter of water
and put him to sleep thinking that he may later on
keep that freshness of the moist grass.

And afterward, the next day, rise with dawn
admiring life, bathe in the brook,
milk my goats in the happiness of the garden
and add a strophe to the poem of the world.

We all need a lighthouse in our life.

A foundation that guides through troubled waters

And away from crashing on life’s rocks

What is your lighthouse?
