In this episode, we explore the power of perseverance, the importance of bailing water to keep our emotional boats afloat, and how choosing life—day after day—can lead to healing.

Inspired by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s timeless poem, “A Psalm of Life,” this episode offers strength, hope, and practical insights on how to keep moving forward, even when the current feels too strong. Learn how embracing the small, healthy choices can eventually calm the storm within and help you find peace again.

Whether you’re in the midst of your grieving journey or supporting someone who is, this episode is a reminder that you are stronger than you know, and better days are ahead. Choose life, embrace the present, and never give up—good things are coming your way.

Today’s Thought: Don’t Quit, Press On!

We all need dreams. Dreams come true on TV, in the movies, and in books. In real life we have to prove we’re worthy of achieving the dream. We have to endure the struggles, setbacks, and periods of time when it seems we’re not making progress and we’re never going to catch a break. Lots of folks walk away from their dreams. They find the struggle to hard. They can’t handle the disappointments. For those who continue to work hard, endure the struggles, and patiently press on, unexpectedly it happens. They cross over to a place they thought of but never knew they could get there. I know this to be true. I’ve witnessed it my life and in the lives of friends. Stay true to your dream. Hang tough. When in doubt, don’t quit, press on.

Today’s Poem: Triangle Friendship by Harriet Annie Wilkins

Triangle Friendship

Harriet Annie Wilkins

I’ll take a triangle friendship please
you get to stop and pause along the path of the triangle
take a deep breath and look around at each corner
see what you have before you
enjoy the moment before you move on to the next corner

With a circle friendship
everything goes round and round much too fast to take in and enjoy
one friend may speed way ahead in a circle friendship
and leave the other behind
gives you no time to see and appreciate what you have in a friend
gives no time to put the breaks on and stop from hurting the one you love

A triangle is never ending as a circle is
but with the triangle you pause
you look around
you see who is there with you
you get to live in that moment
and you look forward to the next corner of the triangle when you both meet again

So for those of you in a circle friendship,
take a hammer out bang that circle into a triangle
and say hello to a new friendship you have begun
and enjoy the corners it has with the one you love.

Today is the start of a new day,
today is the day of the “Triangle Friendship”
one i look forward to taking the time to pause at each corner
and appreciating my friend
enjoying the calm, slow, steady path of
corner to corner to corner
with each other

Health Facts: Don’t Ignore These Symptoms

Two lesser-known but important health facts about recognizing symptoms related to diabetes are:

  1. Skin Changes: One early indicator of diabetes can be changes in the skin, particularly a condition called acanthosis nigricans. This condition is characterized by dark, velvety patches of skin that typically appear in body folds and creases, such as the neck, armpits, and groin. It is often an early sign of insulin resistance, which can precede the onset of type 2 diabetes.
  2. Unexpected Weight Loss: While weight gain is commonly associated with diabetes, particularly type 2, unexplained weight loss can also be a symptom, especially in type 1 diabetes. This occurs because the body starts breaking down muscle and fat for energy when it can’t get enough glucose from the blood due to insulin deficiency. If someone experiences significant weight loss without changes to their diet or exercise routine, it could be a sign of undiagnosed diabetes.

Recognizing these subtle symptoms can be crucial for early diagnosis and management of diabetes, potentially preventing more severe complications.

Today’s Joke: Joe’s On One End of the List

Joe: “I asked my girlfriend if I was the only one she slept with.”

Pete: “What did she say?”

Joe: “She said, ‘Yes, the others were 8’s and 9’s.”

Today’s Thought: C’Mon, Chill

I know some folks who make everything into a fight. A kid cuts across their lawn, they get upset. A dog poops on their lawn, call out the Marines. If they have to wait for a table at a restaurant, they’ll leave and go through a drive through. They’re angry people. They haven’t learned how to work through issues with others without having winners and losers. Working with others takes a bit of work and patience. When we follow through on it, we create or maintain friendships, and we accomplish a lot more.
