Joe: “My boss calls me ‘the computer.'”
Pete: “Why’s that, Joe?”
Joe: “I go to sleep if left alone for 15 minutes.”
“Take it a page at a time. Abandon the idea that you are ever going to finish. Lose track of the 400 pages and write just one page for each day. It helps.” ~ John Steinbeck
Oatmeal’s claim to fame is its proven ability to lower bad (LDL) cholesterol. Chalk that up to a type of soluble fiber called beta glucan.
Eating oats is linked to an average 7% drop in LDL cholesterol, research shows. Many other things also affect your heart‘s health (like what else you eat, how active you are, and whether you smoke), but oatmeal is a simple heart-smart start. Oatmeal also:
- Lowers blood sugar levels
- Provides antioxidants
- Promotes healthy bacteria in your gut
- Helps you to feel full to manage your weight
- Relieves skin itching and irritation
- Lowers your chance of colon cancer
Anger and violence seldom produce anything of lasting value. As a contrast, love builds families, it releases creative energy, it creates fairytale relationships.
One’s word.
A promise.
A good friend
Love received.
Treasured memories.
Sometimes it is better to be present to another without filling the air with words. Being present to another means I’m happy to be with you. If you want to talk, I will carefully listen and only speak to help my understanding of what you are saying. Being present means I love you for who you are at the moment, and each moment that follows.
It would nice to have it all. Life, generally, doesn’t work that way. We have to make choices. The choices we make all contribute to our happiness. Here’s a rubric to help you think about your choices: Will this choice make me happy today? What about a year from now? What about ten years from now? The rubric helps put things in perspective.
“Read, read, read everything – trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You’ll absorb it. Then write. If it is good, you’ll find out. If it’s not, throw it out the window.” ~ William Faulkner
