Today’s Poem ~ In The Bleak Midwinter

In the Bleak Midwinter

Christina Rossetti

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.
Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
Enough for Him, whom cherubim, worship night and day,
Breastful of milk, and a mangerful of hay;
Enough for Him, whom angels fall before,
The ox and ass and camel which adore.
Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
But His mother only, in her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the beloved with a kiss.
What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.

Think About It ~ Did you know how rich you are?

Did you know how rich you are? I’m not speaking of investments, bank accounts, or other forms of accumulated wealth. I’m speaking of the treasure of knowledge, wisdom, and experience you’ve collected throughout your life. Think about how much you know and the wide diversity of your knowledge. Each day you’ve lived you’ve learned something, intentionally or unintentionally and gained both knowledge and experience.  When you tie knowledge and experience together you produce a unique form of wisdom that no one else has. When you consider all the knowledge, experience, and wisdom you have, you have to admit that you can do anything you put your mind to doing. Why not do something great. C’mon, you can do it. You have everything you need.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ It’s Your Time to Soar

Who would attempt to fly with the tiny wings of a sparrow when the mighty power of an eagle has been given him (Kenneth Wapnick).” We see only partially the inordinate gifts we have. We walk through life believing we’ve reached our potential without realizing that our potential is unlimited. It is up to us to keep digging, searching, and working to bring more of our potential to the surface. Once we discover it, it takes hard work and practice (like any great athlete) to hone our potential into something special.

Today’s Joke

Joe: “I have an inferiority complex.”

Pete: “You do?”

Joe: “Yah, but it’s not a very good one.”

What if I took a spontaneous weekend trip?

What if I took a spontaneous weekend trip, what would I experience? My guess is I’d rekindle a childlike sense of adventure. I’ll toss my stuff in my backpack. I’ll purposely forget to take my laptop. I’ll leave early and leave all my worries in rearview mirror. They’ll wait for me. Getting away is important. It refreshes the spirit and body. It relieves us of the stress we’ve become so used to carrying we don’t even notice it. One caution, you’ll come back feeling so good, you may want to make it a habit. LOL.

Today’s Health Tip ~ 3 Tips to Stay Healthy

3 Tips to Stay Healthy

Maintaining good health doesn’t happen by accident. It requires work, smart lifestyle choices, and the occasional checkup and test.

  1. A healthy diet is rich in fiber, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, “good” or unsaturated fats, and omega-3 fatty acids. These dietary components turn down inflammation, which can damage tissue, joints, artery walls, and organs. Going easy on processed foods is another element of healthy eating. Sweets, foods made with highly refined grains, and sugar-sweetened beverages can cause spikes in blood sugar that can lead to early hunger. High blood sugar is linked to the development of diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and even dementia.
  2. Physical activity is also necessary for good health. It can greatly reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, breast and colon cancer, depression, and falls. Physical activity improves sleep, endurance, and even sex.
  3. Eestablish a good relationship with a primary care physician. If something happens to your health, a physician you know —and who knows you — is in the best position to help. He or she will also recommend tests to check for hidden cancer or other conditions.
