Today’s Positive Thought ~ Set You GPS on Great Dreams

The POSITIVE THINKER sees the INVISIBLE, feels the INTANGIBLE, and achieves the IMPOSSIBLE (Winston Churchill).”

Our mind controls the steering wheel of our thoughts and our actions. When we believe we can accomplish great things against great odds, we do. When our mind realizes we won’t quit, it reorients and directs us toward the coordinates we set on our mental GPS>

Today’s Health Tip ~ What Causes Muscle Cramps?

Don’t Want Muscle Cramps – What You Can Do

Various factors can contribute to muscle cramps, including launching into an intense exercise regimen without warming up or stretching and then overusing a muscle. Exercise-related muscle cramps are more common than cramps that aren’t related to exercise, says Mark A. W. Andrews, director of physiology at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine located on the campus of Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

But a lack of muscle use and decreased muscle mass can mean any stress put on the muscle is more likely to result in that muscle cramping. As a result, as people age and muscle and nerve function declines, cramps – including those that aren’t related to exercise – can occur more frequently. Dehydration can increase the chances of cramping as well. Certain conditions like diabetes and thyroid problems, as well as deficiencies in minerals such as potassium, magnesium or calcium can also increase the likelihood of muscle cramps.

Quick Tips to Relive the Cramp

  1. Stitch the muscle.
  2. Massage the muscle
  3. Apply heat
  4. Hydrate
  5. Consider supplements (B vitamins, calcium, magnesium)

Today’s Inspiration ~ You’ll Recognize the Right Path

“If you find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn’t lead anywhere.”

~ Frank A. Clark

Today’s Inspiration ~ Know What Counts in the End

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

~ Winston Churchill

Optimism Work ~ Optimistic Couples Stay Married

Optimism also appears to enhance existing relationships in predictable ways. For example, married couples who score higher in optimism are more likely to stay married. They also tend to work together better to solve problems than do more pessimistic couples. Source

It makes sense that optimistic couples believe they can work through the issues they confront. They hold on to the hope and expectation that tomorrow will be better than today.

Today’s Joke

Joe: “I think my wife worships me.”

Pete: “What makes you think that?”

Joe: “Everyday she puts burnt offerings in front of me.”

Think About It ~ How do you Wake Up?

I wake up at 5:30. I can’t wait to get out of bed and get on with day. I’m sure the day is made for me. I’ve always been this way.  I wake up thinking I’ve got things to do, people to see, and places to go. I can smell the coffee brewing. As soon as I finish my shower and dress, I’ll have a sip of that wonderful brew. I like it strong and black. Oh, yes it’s going to be a great day. Here’s hoping you wake up believing this day is a wonderful gift and you can’t wait to unwrap it.

Today’s Poem ~ A Drunk Pilot Whispers in the Wind

A Drunk Pilot Whispers in the Wind (Inspired by William Wadsworth)

Drunk Pilot (guest poet)

My head spins round and round on high
As I command this drunken flight
But once, long ago, I too would sigh
At rainbows in the sky’s delight

Yet now I am a pilot, inebriated
No longer just a dreaming youth
My life is filled with joys that are debated
As I soar through the clouds, uncouth

But even as I stumble through the air
I cannot help but feel a sense of cheer
For though I am a man now, impaired
The child in me is still very near

So let me fly, despite my state
For in this moment, I am free
And when I grow old, let me relate
The tales of my wild youth, with glee

Poem available on the Drunk Pilot along with entertaining stories.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Want to be Popular?

“People will never forget how you made them feel. (Maya Angelou).”

The host of a popular Food Network show visits small dinners across the US and experiences their food. He talks to the cook (usually the owner), learns how they cook their food, and samples it. He always praises them and leaves them feeling their food is the best on the planet. It’s no wonder his show is so popular. It’s true, people never forget how you make them feel.

Optimism Works ~ What is Optimism?

Optimism doesn’t mean ignoring life’s stressors

When negative things happen, optimistic people are less likely to blame themselves and more likely to see the obstacle as temporary or even positive. Optimists also believe they have control over their fate and can create opportunities for good things to happen in the future.

Being optimist also improves your health, studies find. Prior research has found a direct link between optimism and healthier diet and exercise behaviors, as well as better cardiac health, a stronger immune system, better lung function, and lower mortality risk, among others.
