💡 Something to Think About

How much of yourself do you own? You know what I mean. Do you have folks reaching and grabbing hold of a piece of you? If  you’re not careful, you’ve given it all away. There’s nothing left for you. No wonder you’re exhausted. Is it time to reclaim some of those pieces? Is it time to have the courage to say, ‘No?’

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ Write for the Joy of Writing

“I believe that half the trouble in the world comes from people asking ‘What have I achieved?’ rather than ‘What have I enjoyed?’ I’ve been writing about a subject I love as long as I can remember–horses and the people associated with them, anyplace, anywhere, anytime. I couldn’t be happier knowing that young people are reading my books. But even more important to me is that I’ve enjoyed so much the writing of them.”
~ Walter Farley, The Black Stallion

💡 Something to Think About

Twenty-four hours, that’s what we all have. How we use the time we have makes all the difference in our lives. How are you spending the time you have? Is it making you a better person? Is it building the relationships you are in? Is it advancing your career? Are you discovering time to relax and unwind? Have you loved those important to you?

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Smiles

Smiles
Ella Wheeler Wilcox
Smile a little, smile a little,
As you go along,
Not alone when life is pleasant,
But when things go wrong.
Care delights to see you frowning,
Loves to hear you sigh;
Turn a smiling face upon her –
Quick the dame will fly.

Smile a little, smile a little,
All along the road;
Every life must have its burden,
Every heart its load.
Why sit down in gloom and darkness
With your grief to sup?
As you drink Fate’s bitter tonic,
Smile across the cup.

Smile upon the troubled pilgrims
Whom you pass and meet;
Frowns are thorns, and smiles are blossoms
Oft for weary feet.
Do not make the way seem harder
By a sullen face;
Smile a little, smile a little,
Brighten up the place.

Smile upon your undone labour;
Not for one who grieves
O’er his task waits wealth or glory;
He who smiles achieves.
Though you meet with loss and sorrow
In the passing years,
Smile a little, smile a little,
Even through your tears.

🤗 A Better Life ~ Music is a Wonderful Gift

Music is a wonderful gift. Music touches the deepest parts of our being. It can make us cry, smile, and fall in love. It can also bring out our worst emotions. How does the music you listen to affect you? I hope it lifts you up and gives you wings to fly.

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ What is Nutrient Density?

Think Nutrients instead of Calories

All foods contain calories, but not all foods are nutrient-dense. That’s because nutrients, including protein, carbs, fat, vitamins, and minerals, are what your body needs to thrive. “Nutrient density” refers to the amount of nutrients in a food in relation to the calories it provides .For example, egg whites are much lower in calories and fat than whole eggs. However, an egg white provides 1% or less of the Daily Value (DV) for iron, phosphorus, zinc, choline, and vitamins A and B12, while a whole egg packs 5–21% of the DV for these nutrients. That’s because of the nutritious, high fat yolk that eggs contain. Although some nutrient-dense foods, such as numerous fruits and veggies, are low in calories, many — like nuts, full fat yogurt, egg yolks, avocado, and fatty fish — are high in calories. That’s perfectly OK! . . .As a general rule, try to mostly eat foods that are high in nutrients like protein, fiber, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. These foods include veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, fatty fish, and eggs.
