🌾 Today’s Poem ~ The Apple Orchard

The Apple Orchard
Rainer Maria Rilke
Come let us watch the sun go down
and walk in twilight through the orchard’s green.
Does it not seem as if we had for long
collected, saved and harbored within us
old memories? To find releases and seek
new hopes, remembering half-forgotten joys,
mingled with darkness coming from within,
as we randomly voice our thoughts aloud
wandering beneath these harvest-laden trees
reminiscent of Durer woodcuts, branches
which, bent under the fully ripened fruit,
wait patiently, trying to outlast, to
serve another season’s hundred days of toil,
straining, uncomplaining, by not breaking
but succeeding, even though the burden
should at times seem almost past endurance.
Not to falter! Not to be found wanting!

Thus must it be, when willingly you strive
throughout a long and uncomplaining life,
committed to one goal: to give yourself!
And silently to grow and to bear fruit.

Today’s Smile 😃

Joe: “My girlfriend asked me if I knew why black widow spiders kill their mates after mating.”

Pete: “What did you say?”

Joe: “I asked her why and she said, ‘To stop them from snoring.'”

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Drinking Alone

Drinking Alone
Li Po
I take my wine jug out among the flowers
to drink alone, without friends.

I raise my cup to entice the moon.
That, and my shadow, makes us three.

But the moon doesn’t drink,
and my shadow silently follows.

I will travel with moon and shadow,
happy to the end of spring.

When I sing, the moon dances.
When I dance, my shadow dances, too.

We share life’s joys when sober.
Drunk, each goes a separate way.

Constant friends, although we wander,
we’ll meet again in the Milky Way.

💡 Something to Think About

What makes you happy, really happy? Lots of things make us temporarily happy, but they don’t touch the deep places. When you experiences the things that touch the deep places of happiness inside you don’t let go. Hold on with all your strength.

Today’s Smile 😃

Joe: “I bought a memory foam pillow.”

Pete: “That’s great. How’s it working?”

Joe: “I can’t remember where I put it.”

👊 Today’s Power Thought ~ C’Mon Take a Chance. It Might be your Turn

If you don’t take a chance, you may not fail, but you’ll never know the greatness that resides within you. Go on, take a chance, if you fail, you won’t be the first one. Shake it off, learn from it, and start out again. Yes I Can is your Mantra.

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ Write What You Know

Writers on Writing

“Write what you know. Every guide for the aspiring author advises this. Because I live in a long-settled rural place, I know certain things. I know the feel of a newborn lamb’s damp, tight-curled fleece and the sharp sound a well-bucket chain makes as it scrapes on stone. But more than these material things, I know the feelings that flourish in small communities. And I know other kinds of emotional truths that I believe apply across the centuries.” (July 2001) ~ Geraldine Brooks

🤗 A Better Life ~ Why Not Be Happy?

Why not be happy instead of being sad? Why not be happy instead of dancing with blues? I think I’ll watch the monarch butterflies pass through on their migration south. Or, maybe the hummingbirds will stop by and wave at me. Lots of great things surround us. Why not be happy?
