✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ Don’t Listen to the Naysayers

“Don’t give up, and don’t lose your stubborn belief that you have a story worth telling. I’ve had so many people tell me over so many years that I didn’t have the qualities needed to be a writer. All of my writer friends and I have one thing in common: We didn’t listen to the naysayers. We kept writing. And eventually we have all been published.” ~ Devi S. Laskar

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Peas are a Powerhouse of Nutrition

Health Benefits

If you think that peas are humble, ordinary vegetables, think again! These tiny bead-sized jewels carry quite a punch when it comes to nutrients and health benefits. Peas are in the group of foods known as legumes. Legumes are plants that produce pods with seeds, or beans, inside. Other foods in the legume family include lentils, soybeans, chickpeas, and all types of beans.

The high concentration of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients in peas provides important health benefits that range from keeping your eyes healthy to protecting you against certain cancers. Peas contain the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin. These nutrients help protect your eyes from chronic diseases, such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Lutein and zeaxanthin act as filters from harmful blue light, which contributes to cataracts and macular degeneration.

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Roasted Nuts Versus Raw Nuts: Which is More Nutritional

Roasting nuts and seeds does not significantly change their nutritional value, and claims that roasting nuts changes fat composition or reduces vitamin E are untrue, according to Karen Collins, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., of the American Institute for Cancer Research. Either one is a good source of nutrients so just choose the variety you enjoy more. . . . . Raw nuts have the potential danger of carrying illness-causing bacteria. Salmonella has been reported from eating raw almonds and pistachio nuts.  . . . There is no evidence that roasted, blanched or other heat-treated nuts carry the risk of contamination with salmonella, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
