🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Tips to Keep Your Bones Healthy

What You Can Do to Keep Your Bones Healthy?

Include plenty of calcium in your diet. Good sources of calcium include dairy products, almonds, broccoli, kale, canned salmon with bones, sardines and soy products, such as tofu. If you find it difficult to get enough calcium from your diet, ask your doctor about supplements.

Pay attention to vitamin D. Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium. For adults ages 19 to 70, the RDA of vitamin D is 600 international units (IUs) a day. The recommendation increases to 800 IUs a day for adults age 71 and older. Good sources of vitamin D include oily fish, such as salmon, trout, whitefish and tuna. Additionally, mushrooms, eggs and fortified foods, such as milk and cereals, are good sources of vitamin D. Sunlight also contributes to the body’s production of vitamin D.

Include physical activity in your daily routine. Weight-bearing exercises, such as walking, jogging, and climbing stairs, can help you build strong bones and slow bone loss.

Avoid substance abuse. Don’t smoke. If you are a woman, avoid drinking more than one alcoholic drink each day. If you are a man, avoid drinking more than two alcoholic drinks a day.

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ A Golden Day

A Golden Day
Paul Laurence Dunbar
I Found you and I lost you,
All on a gleaming day.
The day was filled with sunshine,
And the land was full of May.

A golden bird was singing
Its melody divine,
I found you and I loved you,
And all the world was mine.

I found you and I lost you,
All on a golden day,
But when I dream of you, dear,
It is always brimming May.

✒️  Writers’ Wisdom ~  Writing What You Know

“”Write what you know. Every guide for the aspiring author advises this. Because I live in a long-settled rural place, I know certain things. I know the feel of a newborn lamb’s damp, tight-curled fleece and the sharp sound a well-bucket chain makes as it scrapes on stone. But more than these material things, I know the feelings that flourish in small communities. And I know other kinds of emotional truths that I believe apply across the centuries.” ~ Geraldine Brooks

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Figs are a Healthy Food

Figs Provide Many Health Benefits

Figs have been associated with health and prosperity since ancient times. Figs are technically a collection of inverted flowers that, if left alone, would bloom from the inside out. They grow commonly in the Mediterranean and the Middle East — locations that are hot, sunny, and dry for a large portion of the year.

Health Benefits

.Here are some of the health benefits you can expect to enjoy when you eat figs.

Reduce High Blood Pressure – One factor that leads to high blood pressure is a potassium imbalance caused by eating too much sodium and not enough potassium. Figs are a potassium-rich food and can help correct that imbalance. Meanwhile, high levels of fiber in figs can help to flush excess sodium from the system.

Improve Digestion – In addition to their high fiber content, however, figs aid digestion in another way. They are an excellent source of prebiotics, which improve overall gut health.

Increase Bone Density – Figs are a good source of both calcium and potassium. These minerals can work together to improve bone density, which can, in turn, prevent conditions like osteoporosis.

Note: I planted a fig tree several years ago and it provides fresh figs throughout the summer for the me and the birds as well. Freshly picked figs have a great taste that will knock your socks off.

Joe: “Nothing. It was a final notice, they won’t be bothering me again.”

🤗 A Better Life ~ It is Your Road

When we decide to take responsibility for thinking and deciding for ourselves, we take the power away from others who try to impose their thoughts and beliefs on us. Choose to think and decide for yourself. It is a wonderful freedom. Wherever your road leads, it is your road. Stay on it.
