Today’s Thought: What Do They Really Know?

Sports channels, news channels, or the weather channel, all seem to have an obsession with predicting the outcome of events before they happen. Commentators speak with confidence that they know the outcome. Viewers watch hoping the “experts” will side with what they believe will be final outcome. In reality, all the talk and predictions on these shows is nothing more than entertainment value. They tap into our deep insecurities and give us something to hold on to even if what they are giving us is an illusion. Don’t take them too seriously. Sporting contests and life have ways of playing out that are often surprising. We can’t force it or rush it. At times all we can do is patiently observe it.

A person who doubts himself is like a man who would enlist in the ranks of his enemies and bear arms against himself. ~ Alexandre Dumas

Today’s Poem: And Thou Art One by Pat O’Cotter

And Thou Art One

Pat O’Cotter

And Thou art One–One with th’ eternal hills,
And with the flaming stars, and with the moon,
Translucent, cold. The sentinel of noon
That clothes the sky in robes of light and fills
The earth with warmth, the flowering fields, the rills,
The waving trees, the south wind’s elfin rune,
Are One with Thee. All nature is in tune
With Thee, O Father, God–and if one wills
To humbly walk the fragrant, leaf-strewn path
And kneel in reverence ‘neath the vaulted sky,
Hearing the hymnals of the waving trees
And prayers of the soughing winds–what hath
He less of heaven in him than we, who cry,
“God in our creeds doth dwell and not in these?”

Health Fact: DYK Sunflower Seeds Benefits?

Sunflower seeds are often praised for their nutritional benefits, but there are some lesser-known health facts about them that are quite important:

1. Rich in Selenium:

Sunflower seeds are an excellent source of selenium, a trace mineral that plays a crucial role in DNA synthesis, thyroid hormone metabolism, and protection against oxidative damage and infection. Selenium is important for maintaining a healthy immune system and may also help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and certain cancers.

2. High in Phytosterols:

Sunflower seeds contain high levels of phytosterols, plant compounds that structurally resemble cholesterol. Phytosterols compete with cholesterol for absorption in the digestive system, which can help lower blood cholesterol levels. This makes sunflower seeds beneficial for heart health by potentially reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Today’s Joke: Joe’s GF Thinks Joe Is Putting on Weight

Joe: “My girlfriend told me I was getting fat.”

Pete: “What did you say to her?”

Joe: “I said, ‘Lately, I’ve had a lot on my plate.”

Today’s Thought: It’s Okay to be Wrong

Everyone has a right to be wrong, more than once. Everyone has a right to mess up, more than once. The folks who like to point fingers and criticize don’t realize when they are pointing a finger they are pointing three fingers back toward themselves. We get along a lot better when we cut each other some slack, laugh at our mistakes, and encourage each other to keep trying.
